An Evening of Celebration

Night 01

After a week of hard work and extensive live-building, it’s time to relax and enjoy the structure we’ve created. A great opportunity to reflect on what has been an amazing week, share a big thank you, and test the shelter we’ve created.

The Finishing Touch (Day Six)

Day Six 05

The end is near. It’s all cylinders go, to get everything ready for tonight. Sarking has been applied to the deck, the cladding has been finished off, the door is hinged and side panel built-up, along with bitumen paint application in full swing. We’re looking forward to the end result.

Cladding, Decking, Doorway […and a wee bit of Kite-Flying] (Day Five)

Day Five 04

As the application of the outside skin starts; it’s all hands on deck to layout the stepped entrance and build-up the big doorway.

walls… walls… glorious walls… (Day Four)

Day Four 06

As the main shape of the shelter progresses; the framed view looks as good as ever! Designs now begin to evolve for detailing the interior and cladding. Hopefully, all will be water-tight soon, and we’ll have a great little place to snooze with an awesome view.

The Floor-Plate and Final Design Strategy (Day Three)

…along with the second material delivery arriving on site.

Now with all the resources to fabricate the basic shell; a strong focus lies on working hard to achieve our goal and ambition. The weather has been incredibly kind to us, so hopefully we can progress well in the next few days…

This is when the hands-on experience and on-site learning, our live-build has to offer, comes into its own.

Foundation Fun! (Day Two)

Developments begin as we make our first footprints on the site. Digging holes has been the major task for the day, and it’s not been a walk in the park… Let’s hope these shoulders are strong enough to bear the load for a long time to come.

It’s all in the planning. (Day One)

group

The first stage always involves the measuring out and levelling, along with sketching and doodling.

Looking at the progression of ‘shelter’; and ‘sheltering’ the ways people perform different activities, we’ve started to develop strategies for the site. Today’s been all about asking questions, as well as the site survey, and the location of key elements within it.
